MyDoom unlikely to overwhelm Microsoft's web presence

news alert

London, UK - 2 February 2004, 11:15 GMT - With less than a day remaining before MyDoom.b mounts a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack against Microsoft, the mi2g Intelligence Unit has concluded that their online presence may not succumb to MyDoom.b unless the rate of infections begins to rise dramatically at some stage. At present, there is less than 10% proliferation of MyDoom.b in comparison to all MyDoom infections worldwide as well as little evidence of a mounting delay in downloading Microsoft web pages. The home page of Microsoft is downloading in less than half of one second contrary to the experience with the SCO web site 24 hours prior to the designated attack time. This suggests that Microsoft may have some dilation through February in servicing all requests at the peak of the MyDoom attack but may not get knocked down or overwhelmed completely.
