Energy supply, Weapons of Mass Destruction and Computing:
Where is the critical point of vulnerability for our society?
London, UK - 9 February 2004, 10:30 GMT - So far so good. No 1973
style petroleum embargo from oil-rich countries provoking a global energy
crisis and there is enough control through division in the Middle-East, for
the moment, to ward off any potential threat. However, is dependence on fossil
fuels still the main Achilles heel of the industrialised world, thirty years
on from the days of Kissinger style shuttle-diplomacy and the Yom Kippur war?
Whilst remaining a long term concern, energy supply disruption may not be
the single biggest point of failure that could trigger a sudden collapse of
the global critical economic infrastructure over the coming few years.
