All Quiet on the Cyber Front
news alert
London, UK - 17 February 2003, 11:30 GMT - Despite the million plus
anti-war demonstrations across the world over the weekend, very limited cyber
hacktivism was witnessed. The number of digital attacks was below trend for
Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th February. It would seem that hackers
were protest marching or watching television instead of being in front of
their keyboards.
Less than 10 digital attacks were seen this weekend against US and UK online
targets in regard to the war with Iraq in comparison to over 50 protest attacks
over previous weekends. For the first time, this included some hacktivism
which supported regime change in Iraq. The lull in politically motivated cyber
attacks is similar to the quiet seen immediately after 9/11.
