Digital Entertainment targeted by Criminal Syndicates

London, UK - 19 January 2004, 13:00 GMT - Global criminal syndicates are increasingly using the internet as a conduit for exchanging and distributing counterfeit audio, video and computer gaming products. In recent months, users of broadband connections in a number of industrialised countries including USA, Germany and UK have reported severe slow downs that have been attributed to exceptionally large video file exchanges and computer games flows. The exchanged products are invariably those which have either yet to be released or are highly popular. The original CDs or DVDs are priced at over $20 on the high street.
