Mimail climbs to 5th worst malware of all time

London, UK - 20 November 2003, 15:30 GMT - The Mimail virus family has risen to become the 5th most damaging malware of all time according to the SIPS database maintained by the mi2g Intelligence Unit. The total economic damage from the Mimail malware family is now put at $8.85 billion worldwide in terms of productivity losses as well as business interruption. The Mimail family, which targets Windows users only, ranks below Sobig(1), Klez(2), Yaha(3) and Swen(4). The Mimail.J and Mimail.I variants have contributed significantly to the climb. They were first spotted as recently as 17th November and 14th November respectively.
